Alright, hear me out. I’ve been drinking matcha for years (probably at least 5 years consistently) and up until recently, ordering a matcha at a coffee shop was a miss. With the explosion of coffee shops opening the last year, and some actually specializing in matcha, I’m finally ordering matcha when I go to a coffee shop. I thought it would be good to round up where to get the best matcha in Austin for you!
I’m picky when it comes to matcha. It needs to be high quality matcha. Ceremonial grade preferred. The coffee shops needs to WHISK the matcha. It can’t be premade. It can’t be hand stirred. They can’t use boiling water.
I won’t keep you waiting any longer…Here are my go to spots for the best matcha in Austin.
Updated September 2026
Love Lamp Matcha
This matcha-only shop meets all your needs – whisked matcha, high quality, unique ingredients, all housemade, and THE GOOD ICE! I’ve had the matcha lemonade, rose cold foam with strawberry dust matcha, and the matcha latte with cherry vanilla syrup and they’re all so dang delish. They have a frozen on the menu that I need to try once it warms up a bit.
The owner, Taylor, is a sweetheart and if you visit the location off Guadalupe and Lamar-ish, her husband’s ceramic studio is next door.

Palomino
This magical place has been a go to of mine since the pandemic and it isn’t far from my house! They make all of their syrups in house which I appreciate! They know how to do matcha right! If you swing by, order any of their matcha specials if you see one – the winter fig matcha was so good. The summertime matcha, prickly pear matcha lemonade is so refreshing.

Leche – popping up at Casa de Luz on MLK Fri-Sun!
This cutie spot was in a vintage clothing shop off of East 6th when I first discovered it and I’ve started frequenting it because Camilla makes her syrups in house and uses ceremonial grade matcha too! The ube matcha can’t be beat! I recently had the guava matcha and it might be the best combo ever!

Merit Coffee
Did you know Merit Coffee has strawberry matcha year round?! Yep, it was so popular and now it’s available every day and I’m here for it. I’ve been a huge fan of Merit for years and love that they have one of the best strawberry matchas in town available whenever I want it.

Ghoul Coffee
Ghoul Coffee isn’t just a fall/Halloween spot! I discovered this coffee truck last summer and can’t get enough of their incredible drinks! Aside from the Maple Boo Butter being my all time favorite, they now have ceremonial grade matcha available and you can add any of their syrups. I’d suggest lavender since a lavender matcha is the ultimate drink! They also have a matcha menu now! You can find the truck at the Vegan Nom Food Truck Park off E. Cesar Chavez.

Magick Matcha
If you’re looking for a colorful matcha with good-for-you add-ins, Magick Matcha is your spot! I first visited them when they were posted up in a truck off East 12th and now you’ll find them in the cutest walk-up window off SoCo! My fave is the Pink Dream and it is very instaworthy!

Desnudo
I’m sure by now you’ve been to one of the 2 Desnudo truck locations in Austin for arguably the best coffee you’ll have! I discovered their truck wayyyyyyy before it went viral and Juan and Sergio are killing it with all of their unique creations. If you see their limited special Boggy Berry syrup on the menu, get it with your matcha. But even a plain matcha with oat milk will impress! I need to make it there when they have fermented strawberry syrup available!

Freewheelin’ Coffee – brick and mortar coming soon
I came across this cutie truck when on a staycation off E. Cesar Chavez a few summers ago. I had a lavender rose matcha there for the first time and that combo slapped! They most recently had a strawberry mocha for Valentine’s but I bet that strawberry cold foam would be amazing on a matcha. They’re moving to a brick and mortar soon!

Prana Cafe
New to East Austin on E. 7th, Prana has become one of my favorite spots for shakes, smoothies and MATCHA! Order an iced lavender matcha with coconut cold foam and thank me later! It pairs perfectly with one of their toasts. Oh and their smoothies are amazing so get one of those too.

CaPhê.in Coffee
New to the Drag, CaPhê.in specializes in Vietnamese Coffee and has an extensive menu of matcha, hojicha, Vietnamese coffee and other creations! I loved the Coco Cloudy Matcha – so fluffy and hydrating with the pink coconut water!

Later Gator Coffee
This Louisiana inspired coffee truck is adorable and has so many matcha options and beignets! The legit kind! I grew up eating them and these pass my test!
Try any of their matcha specials or a strawberry matcha – so good!

Kyoko Coffee
This adorable coffee truck is posted up off Airport at the Highland Collective and is sooo cute! They have a large menu of super unique drinks that I’ll have to go back to work my way down the menu. I had the Ube-cha with oat milk for my first time and wowwwwww, this is a legit drink that drinks so smoothly. It’s well balanced and I will dream of it until the next sip.

Civil Goat
With three locations around town, there is no reason you can’t visit. I appreciate that they don’t up charge for alternative milk. Their coffee and match program is strong! I tried their special Strawberry Fields matcha recently and love the cold foam on top!

Luanne’s Coffee & Matcha
A new addition to the Eastside, Luanne’s is popping up in a bungalow with a hair salon! They have a few matchas on the menu and if you can have dairy, the Honey Cornbread Latte looks amazing! I had the blue coconut matcha and it was perfectly balanced!

Neon Belly Coffee & Bakery
Newly opened on Burnet Rd., this spot is cuteeeeeeeeeeeeeee! So bright, welcoming, fun, attentive staff, huge menu with unique creations, and lots of pastries to choose from! Great spot to hang out and work too! I LOVED the blueberry lavender matcha! So well blended, flavorful, drinkable! Also ordered a PB Cookie Brookie which paired perfectly!

Hometown Coffee
They’ve opened their second truck, now on the Eastside, by Micklethwait BBQ! Housemade syrups, unique drinks, and even breakfast sandwiches! They have a strawberry matcha (with a splash of vanilla) that is so so good iced with some oat milk. Try that out next time. Or get a matcha with their earl grey syrup and thank me later!

Matcha Boys
They’ve been popping up for a while but are most likely in their permanent home in The Loop in Hyde Park and if you’re in walking distance, you’re so lucky! Popped in for a special edition mango matcha, and it didn’t disappoint! They have a strawberry matcha and a blueberry matcha that look top notch too. Will try next time. Shout out to Jose for chatting with me and truly wanting to get to know me. Oh, if matcha isn’t your thing, Win Win Coffee is there too and has some unique cold brew bevs!

Hecho Amano
Thrilled to have Hecho Amano in East Austin now – they moved down I-35 from Pflugerville so yay for us! People always rave about their coffee and matcha so I had to see what all the hype is about and I get it. The Pear Ume Matcha special is beyond delicious. I can’t wait to go back and try all of the other matcha combos!

Mattina
I’m so glad there is a second, more convenient location of Maňana (now called Mattina) that isn’t on SoCo so I can go more often to order their Mango Sticky Rice Matcha! It is so so good with oat milk. Craving it and can’t wait to go back. I might ask for less sweet next time!

So there you have it! My favorite matchas around Austin. I’ll keep adding to the list as I try others that impress!

Cheers,
Shveta
