How to Spend a Weekend at Camp Lucy in Dripping Springs

June 9, 2020

It seems like this summer is going to be one perfect for road trips and nearby getaways while we all get through this pandemic together. We wanted to go somewhere nearby for a couple nights to celebrate our anniversary, and after tons of research, checking availability and talking to some friends, we chose Camp Lucy for our getaway!

Nestled in Dripping Springs off of 290 and far enough in that you feel like you’re FAR AWAY from the hustle and bustle of Austin, Camp Lucy is simply perfect. It only took us about 40 minutes from East Austin and really, that isn’t long at all. You drive over creeks and past ranches and instantly feel at peace.

Camp Lucy has plenty of things to keep you busy or to help you relax – there is something for everyone!

Stay

We stayed in a Vista King Room overlooking the woods and green space at the back of the property. You can choose an Estate Room if you’d rather. The property isn’t huge and as of right now, they’ve got 27 rooms and a few bigger cottages, so this is more of an intimate setting with far less people than you usual hotel. We loved the Vista King! The aesthetics are totally up my alley.

The room is spacious with a separate living room space and a private balcony.
I loved the wall hanging! They also have robes for you 🙂

Fun

Walk the grounds for sure! We did some exploring both evenings after dinner and caught beautiful views by the wedding venues overlooking the creek! Absolutely breathtaking views TBH. Also, I want to get married all over again and have the ceremony at Camp Lucy! Until that happens again (maybe for our 25th), someone please get married there and invite me 🙂

There are 3 hiking trails and we did 2 of them. Nothing strenuous really and I had forgotten my tennis shoes, and walked both in flip flops (not ideal but these sandals had some good cushion). Be sure to walk from your room to the Sacred Oaks. It’s a long walk down a paved road through woods but once you get there, you’ll see the majesty of the Oaks! Walk down to the creek one morning too. You can fish there if you’d like. Camp Lucy has fishing poles you can borrow to catch some little fishies. We just hung out there for a bit and enjoyed the tranquil vibes along the creek.

If you enjoy ax throwing or archery, you can partake in those. I believe there are sign-ups at the main office.

They’ve got a vineyard on the property that you can hike to as well! Or take a tour! We didn’t get to this time around but I’d go back and do it next time.

Of course, spend lots of time by the pool. It’s a gorgeous space and they’re limiting capacity to make it a safe experience for you. They’re selling day passes for $50 and you’ll have access to the pool from 12-6PM and the cost goes towards any food and drink you purchase during your time at the pool. TAKE THEM UP ON THIS OFFER!

Eat

Camp Lucy is owned by Whit Hanks whose great grandmother was Tillie. He named the restaurant after her. Did you know that Tillie was the first female developer in Austin? Check out “Our Story” on their website for some really cool details about the Hanks family and Tillie.

I’d heard amazing, raving reviews of the food at Tillie’s and was very excited to dine there during our stay. We loved everything we ate so much the first night that we ended up having food from there the next day at the pool and dining for dinner there again the 2nd night.

They set up tables inside to maintain social distancing, but we chose to sit outside just for some added comfort. Either way, go on and make a reservation and plan to treat yourself with the lovely ambiance and absolutely delicious food and drinks.

Tillie’s has beer, wine, cocktails and spirits available to celebrate any occasion! I really enjoyed the cocktail, La Vida Daroda and come on, it’s stunning isn’t it?

Tillie’s entrance is grand and breathtaking. Pictures do not do it justice! When you walk in, you’ll definitely find yourself picking up your bottom jaw which dropped!

The menu changes seasonally so while you might not have the chance to order what we did, you won’t be disappointed in anything you order. We were blown away by literally everything. The first night, we ordered the Spicy Fried Brussel Sprouts, Thai Chicken and Tagliatelle. I’d eat them all over again! In fact, we did get the brussel sprouts the 2nd night!

The Tagliatelle had oyster mushrooms, kale, prosciutto and parmesan. The Thai Chicken comes over sticky rice and is OUTSTANDING!
These Brussel Sprouts y’all – no words! Too good!

We ordered from the pool menu while lounging by the pool. The Tillie’s Burger with their dill fries are a must! We also started with a mixed local farm greens salad to get in our veggies. Perfect poolside food!

Mixed Farm Greens Salad – this was how it was plated at dinner but it comes just as loaded if you order from the pool
Tillie’s Cheeseburger – I didn’t want this burger to end. Also, I shared with my husband and wished I didn’t 🙂

The second night, we had the brussel sprouts, mixed farm greens salad and the Bacon and Mushroom Jam Pizza <- this did not disappoint! I loved every bite.

Check out those greens (arugula) on top! The crust was crispy and just right. So so so so so good
Don’t leave the table without ordering dessert! The Pot de Creme was exquisite – I love hazelnuts and chocolate together!

Tillie’s hours are changing for the summer to accommodate more guests. They’ll serve lunch on Fridays from 11-2P, brunch on Saturdays and Sundays from 9-2P, a limited menu from 2-5P Fridays-Sundays and dinner Wednesday-Sunday from 5-9P. The pool menu is available Monday-Friday from 11-6P and Saturday and Sunday 2-6P. See their website for updated hours.

We had a lovely stay full of fun, adventure, relaxation and food! I highly recommend visiting Camp Lucy for all your getaway needs. There is fun for everybody in the family!

Until next time,

Shveta
